Every steel company in the country utilizes outside contractors in order to perform certain production-related tasks as well as during outages and shutdowns. Contractor injuries and deaths are a common occurrence in steel mills across the nation. Contract workers are at a distinct safety disadvantage while working on your property. They are not familiar with many of the hazards that exist in a steel mill environment. Also, many of those hazards are still present when equipment and processes are shut down. As a result, it is imperative to give contractor employees sufficient training to help them recognize and avoid department-specific hazards. MTS is THE leader in providing safety training to steel mill and contractor employees in North America. MTS has developed more Contractor Safety videos than anyone in the world. We have been serving the Steel Industry for more than 20 years and we are extremely knowledgeable in virtually all steel production processes. This enables us to develop highly relevant training that helps keep contractor employees safe while they are on your property.

Just like steel mills, OSHA requires that contractor companies train their employees according to the standards outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations. Some contractor companies are conscientious and actually train their employees, while a surprisingly large percentage of contractor companies provide little or no training. To help your contractors meet the annual OSHA safety training requirements, MTS has created an online training curriculum specifically for contractor companies. All of the topics in the curriculum feature steel mill footage and present the OSHA training material from a steel mill perspective. The MTS Contractor Safety Training Curriculum is a valuable tool to help your contractors comply with many of OSHA’s training requirements.
Most steel companies rely on their own employees to do some or all of the contractor training. By using the MTS CON-TRACK system, no internal resources are needed in order to deliver high quality contractor training. Also, since the contractor companies pay for the training on a per-employee basis, there is no cost to you.
MTS will work with you to develop custom video-based training that addresses the department-specific hazards that can injure or kill contractor employees who come into your facilities. We will also address any rules, policies, and practices that they must adhere to while in your plants. This training is delivered to the contractor employees on an individual basis. Our video-based training is more consistent than instructor-led training because it guarantees that all of the necessary information will be covered. The initial development of the training courses and on-going updates are provided at no cost to you.
The MTS CON-TRACK system gives you more control over the contractor employee training process. The training includes interactive testing that confirms that the contractor employees viewed and understood the training material. CON-TRACK also provides you and the individual contractor companies with a variety of reporting tools to effectively manage the contractor employee training process.
MTS has developed powerful tools to help you manage the contractor training function. The MTS CON-TRACK system utilizes a database to record all contractor employee training and testing. Reports and notifications are available for your company, the contractor and the contractor employee. The CON-TRACK database is updated immediately upon completion of a contractor employee training session. A contractor employee can actually take the training in your parking lot using a smartphone, pass the test and then walk straight to your guardhouse and be eligible to immediately enter and perform work. CON-TRACK keeps track of training anniversary dates and can be configured to automatically send emails to the contractor and the employee to remind them that they must take the training again in order to stay current.
